Located at 18642 Magnolia Estates in Prairieville, LA, Azalea Gardens' design was the heartfelt service project of Anthony Tradewell, 3rd year student, Louisiana State University (LSU) College of Art and Design. The reflection pond in the center of the Gardens is a place for meditation and a place of remembrance for babies lost to miscarriage or abortion. All garden building materials, azaleas and crape myrtles were donated by local businesses; the labor was donated by several dedicated LSU Agriculture students. Garden construction began Mother's Day Saturday, 2002, and was completed in the Summer. Azalea Gardens was featured on ABC affiliate station WBRZ in Baton Rouge and in the July 5, 2002, United Methodist Church Publication, "Louisiana Now!," in an article entitled "Garden of Remembrance." Chaplain Cathy Arends was Guest Speaker at the LSU chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architecture's Spring Banquet in May, 2002, held in Baton Rouge, LA. |
